This wabi sabi styled tea bowl was first wheel thrown and then the foot was hand carved. I made this bowl out of my small workshop in Northern Taiwan.
The clay body I used was a mix of local Taiwanese clay. It was quite groggy, which means the clay had sand mixed in, so the shino glaze reacted well. A feature of the shino glaze is that it is a warm orangey/white.
The bowl was gas fired for 14 hours.
While throwing this bowl I was free in my design, wanted to create a tea bowl that had character. I added lines of interest throughout sections of the body to add some movement and sense of the bowl experiencing hardship but then ultimately surviving in the end.
My seal is marked on the side of the tea bowl.
