Birds symbolize freedom in many cultures. Behind this simplistic design, it's the workmanship of the designer. From wood cutting, shaping, polishing, to blacksmithing and forging of the bird's steel beak and feet, all are completed by designer Marcin Skalski's hands. *this is a unique piece with a faint pink circular wood grain* Each bird measures around 14cm tall (±1cm). After all polishing and forging with beaks and legs, they are covered with linseed oil to nourish and protect the wood. https://static.wixstatic.com/media/cc3269_d0dd2f4ff05d441fa969cf5280dbbed1~mv2_d_3264_4912_s_4_2.jpg Stone’s Forge is architect Marcin Skalski's craft project merging blacksmithing and woodworking. Coming form Lesser Poland's countryside, Marcin's main inspiration is traditional applied art-ordinary everyday objects such as a ferruled wooden wheel or a scythe. In his debut project he picked up a bird, which is one of the most common motifs in folk art. The bird figurines are very simple and synthetic in form. Each figurine is entirely handcrafted and so there are no two exactly alike unique. The wood is thoroughly polished up to bring to one's mind the feeling of an old wooden handle smoothed by the years of its usage.
