This tea bowl was wheel thrown and then hand carved to add character. The foot was carved out by a wooden tool.
I used a local Taiwanese clay body while the drinking lip was dipped in Japanese porcelain slip, hence the whiter appearance. I glazed this chawan in an ash glaze and then soda fired it. Soda firing is when you spray soda into the kiln at high temperature which then forms another glaze over the pot. Soda firing is unpredictable, adding to the uniqueness of the bowl. It will never be able to be reproduced. You will own something that will be totally original.
