Roman ring at the Louvre, France

This big ring is made of a strap completely covered with twisted wire. The dome and polished stone are inlaid on a metal base, which is decorated with twisted wires inlaid with pearls. Where the Gemstone is set in the ring, there are three small balls arranged in a triangle. In creating this work, the goldsmith strived for formal aesthetics, which was characteristic of the Roman world at that time. He used the contrast of gold appearance, alternating polished and matt surfaces, and the color contrast between the gray of agate and the yellow of gold.
