We learned the secret techniques of hand polishing at an Edo Kiriko workshop that was founded over 100 years ago, and even though we consider the productivity and profitability of the technique low, we value the tradition and want to deliver authentic Kiriko to our users, so we also value the technique of hand polishing. There are 4 rows of polka dots, with 16 on each row. It also features alternating clear polka dots and erased polka dots. If the polka dots near the bottom are darkly colored, the colored parts will clash, but we prioritize the roundness of the polka dots. Since the design of a sake cup is often viewed from the inside, the polka dots are cut to be less transparent, with this in mind. In the prototype, we left enough distance between the polka dots so that the colors would not clash. There are 12 polka dots in each row, and only up to the third row. However, I felt that this didn't give the impression of polka dots sufficiently, so I scrapped it. Each piece is polished by hand using the traditional method, allowing for both frosted and clear areas to be incorporated into the design. On the other hand, acid polishing involves submerging the entire glass in a highly toxic substance such as sulfuric acid, so it is not possible to create frosted glass.
